Karen grew up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin. Both she and her husband Joe graduated from the University of Wisconsin, then spent a year hitchhiking through Europe. They came to Oregon in 1979, and settled in Dallas. She worked for the law firm of Shetterly, Irick and Shetterly in Dallas until 1998, and became a licensed life and health insurance agent in 2000. After 10 years of working as an independent health insurance agent, she joined Pfaff-Karren Insurance in the fall of 2010.
In the process of building her client base in the early 2000s, Karen began using colorful business cards and became the “lady with the purple business card.” She has been a member of the Salem Chamber of Commerce since 2001. She served on the Board of the Monmouth Independence Chamber and has assisted with fund raising for Partnerships in Community Living. Karen is one of two agents authorized to offer Sons of Norway insurance products in Oregon and is actively involved on the board of Thor Lodge, Salem Sons of Norway, as well as the Eugene Sons of Norway Sonja Lodge.
In 2016 she formed a partnership with fellow agent Kristin Thomas and together they purchased Pfaff-Karren Insurance in 2017. Karen became managing partner and the face of the life and health side of their agency. Because of her dedication to clients and strong work ethic, she has been recognized for her achievement and is one of 31 agents statewide to receive an annual grant from the State of Oregon to assist even more Oregonians enroll in health insurance. With no plans to retire anytime soon, she is thrilled to have the whole team of K Insurance Group working together to focus on the goal of helping more clients with the best possible customer service in all aspects of health and life insurance.
Karen and Joe still live in the first home they bought in Dallas in 1981. She loves to work on the yard and plant as many flowers as possible. They are passionate travelers, especially to Europe and anywhere tropical.

Kristin is a native Oregonian. Prior to working in the insurance industry, Kristin worked for the State of Oregon, DHS, Refugee & Asylee Program. Kristin obtained both her Property & Casualty and Life & Health Insurance licenses in 2009. With the introduction of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Kristin’s focus became helping Oregonians understand & access health insurance under the new guidelines. In 2015, at the first annual Oregon Agent Summit in Salem, Oregon, Kristin met Karen Frascone and the two instantly connected! In 2016, Kristin moved to Pfaff-Karren Insurance in Independence, Oregon and purchased the agency with Karen Frascone in 2017. Over the course of the next 4 years, her desire to return to health insurance intensified and in early 2021, the decision was made to narrow the focus of the agency to Life & Health Insurance exclusively. Combining the knowledge and resources of 20+ years of health insurance experience, including a detailed understanding of the ACA, The American Rescue Plan of 2021, and changes to Medicare, the newly formed K Insurance Group was formed!
Both Kristin and Karen are dedicated to expanding outreach efforts and taking time to know each client.
Kristin loves being a mother and gets to enjoy the snuggles of her grandchildren too! She is a proud U.S. Navy Mom, and happiest spending time with her family.
She is active in her community regarding accessibility for human services & supports, mental health awareness and suicide prevention. She personally participates with S.A.B.L.E. House in Dallas, Oregon who serve and support those who experience and survive domestic abuse.
